Helsinki Opens Finland’s Longest Bridge, Connecting Laajasalo to the City Centre

Kruunuvuori Bridge, now the longest and highest bridge in Finland, has officially opened to the public, marking a major milestone in Helsinki’s urban development.

The 1,191-metre structure was inaugurated on Saturday in a ceremony attended by city officials and a large crowd of residents.

Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov cut the ribbon at one end of the bridge, while Deputy Mayor Johanna Laisaari opened the other, symbolically linking both sides of the city.

Stretching across the water, the bridge connects the growing residential area of Kruunuvuorenranta in the eastern suburb of Laajasalo with central Helsinki.

The new link is expected to significantly improve transport and accessibility for residents, while also supporting the city’s long-term plans for sustainable urban expansion.

City officials say the project will play a key role in easing congestion and promoting public transport, as Helsinki continues to invest in modern infrastructure to meet the demands of a growing population.
