Finnair Eyes Starlink and Amazon for Next-Generation In-Flight Wi-Fi

Finland's national airline, Finnair, is exploring a major upgrade to its onboard internet service and is currently in discussions with both Elon Musk's Starlink and Amazon's Project Kuiper (formerly known as Leo) for future in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity.
According to reports, Finnair is expected to make a final decision later this year. CEO Turkka Kuusisto said that negotiations are ongoing and it is still too early to announce which provider will be selected.
Both Starlink and Amazon's satellite network use Low Earth Orbit (LEO) technology, offering faster and more reliable internet connections compared to traditional satellite systems.
Starlink, operated by SpaceX, is already used by several major airlines, including Lufthansa and Emirates, while Amazon's service has been chosen by Delta Air Lines.
Finnair currently provides onboard internet through the Nordic Sky platform. The airline believes next-generation satellite technology could significantly improve passengers' connectivity experience during flights.
Separately, Kuusisto noted that jet fuel availability remains stable ahead of the busy summer travel season, although geopolitical tensions in the Middle East continue to pose potential risks to global supply chains.
