Indian Student Found Dead in Finland Two Months After Disappearance; Police Rule Out Foul Play

HELSINKI, Finland | July 11, 2026
The body recovered from the sea near Kruunuvuorenranta beach in Helsinki has been officially identified as 18-year-old Indian engineering student Manideep Reddy Gujja, bringing a tragic end to a search that lasted more than two months.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed that the body found during a joint search operation involving the Finnish Coast Guard and Helsinki Police belongs to the Indian student who disappeared on May 5, 2026. Authorities said there is currently no evidence suggesting criminal involvement, although investigators are continuing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding his death.
Manideep, originally from Hyderabad, India, had moved to Finland in 2025 to study engineering at LUT University (Lappeenranta–Lahti University of Technology). Police said he travelled by the Z train from Lahti to Helsinki on May 5, and his last confirmed sighting was at a K-Market in Helsinki's Kruunuvuorenranta district around 8 P.M. After that, he vanished without a trace.
The investigation was later transferred to Finland's National Bureau of Investigation due to the case's complexity. Search operations involving police divers, the Finnish Coast Guard, and volunteer search teams focused on the coastal waters around Kruunuvuorenranta, where the body was eventually recovered.
The disappearance had drawn attention in both Finland and India, with Manideep's family appealing to Indian authorities for assistance after losing contact with him. His parents had also approached the Telangana High Court seeking support in efforts to locate their son.
Finnish investigators said the case will remain open until forensic examinations and the death investigation are completed, although police have stated that no crime is currently suspected.
