July Ends Wetter and Cooler Than Normal, but Weather Varied Across Finland

July 2026 was marked by unusually cool temperatures and frequent rainfall across much of Finland, making it one of the wettest midsummer months in recent years. However, weather statistics show the picture was not the same everywhere.
According to meteorological data, several regions experienced well above-average rainfall throughout the month, while temperatures remained below the seasonal norm for extended periods.
The persistent rain affected outdoor events, tourism, agriculture, and summer travel across the country.
Despite the overall gloomy conditions, some areas enjoyed brief periods of sunshine and warmer weather, preventing July from being uniformly cold or wet nationwide.
Weather experts noted that regional differences were significant, with parts of northern and eastern Finland recording more favorable summer conditions than the south and west.
The cooler temperatures were mainly driven by repeated low-pressure systems moving across Northern Europe, bringing unstable weather and frequent showers instead of prolonged summer heat.
Meteorologists say that although July will be remembered as an exceptionally rainy and cool month, the statistics reveal a more nuanced story, with notable variations from one region to another.
As Finland enters August, forecasters expect more stable weather conditions, with warmer temperatures and longer dry spells likely in many parts of the country, offering hope for a brighter end to the summer season.
