SDP Maintains Strong Lead as Support Rises to 23.8% in Latest Finland Poll

Finland’s opposition Social Democratic Party (SDP) has strengthened its position as the country’s most popular political party, according to the latest voter support poll commissioned by Yle.
The SDP received 23.8 per cent support in the latest survey, up 0.6 percentage points from the previous poll. The party, led by Antti Lindtman, now holds a 6.8-point lead over Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s National Coalition Party (NCP).
The NCP remained in second place with 17.0 per cent, although its support fell by 0.4 percentage points.
The latest poll also showed a notable recovery for the governing Finns Party, whose support rose to 15.6 per cent. This is the party’s strongest result since October 2024 and places it in third position, ahead of the Centre Party, which dropped to 12.7 per cent.
The SDP’s continued lead comes less than a year before Finland’s next parliamentary elections, scheduled for April 2027. While the figures indicate strong support for the opposition party, researchers caution that current polling should not be treated as a prediction of the election result.
According to Taloustutkimus research director Tuomo Turja, the gap between the SDP and NCP is relatively large, although such differences can narrow as elections approach.
The latest survey interviewed 2,125 adults in mainland Finland between 6 July and 3 August. Among those surveyed, 76 per cent identified a party they would vote for if parliamentary elections were held at the time of the poll. The margin of error is approximately ±2.2 percentage points.
The figures suggest that the SDP continues to hold a strong position ahead of the 2027 election, while the governing parties face the challenge of rebuilding voter support during the final months of the parliamentary term.
