HSL Brings More Trains and Buses for Winter

HSL Brings More Trains and Buses for Winter

Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) will start its winter schedule on August 10. The change brings more buses, trams and trains to the capital region as people return to work and school after summer.

Train Services Return

Many train lines that were stopped for the summer will start running again. The I and P trains will once again go around the whole Ring Rail Line. Two stations – North Haaga and Kannelmäki – will reopen to passengers.

However, some stations stay closed. Malminkartano station will remain shut until September 7. Because of construction there, I and P trains between Helsinki, Huopalahti and Myyrmäki will run only every 20 minutes until October 4.

A and L trains will return, stopping again at Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä. K trains will run every 10 minutes as usual. D trains, which run between Helsinki and Riihimäki during busy morning and evening hours, will also come back.

Tuomarila station will stay closed until at least October 5. Replacement buses 224X and 224K will continue to serve passengers there.

Bus and Tram Changes

Several bus routes will run more often. Routes 22, 55, 81 and 105 will take new paths to give passengers more direct travel in Helsinki, including new links to Hietalahti and Jätkäsaari. Route 16 will be discontinued.

Trams in central Helsinki will also run more often from August 10. From August 31, some tram routes will change because of construction on Runeberginkatu in Töölö.

The West Helsinki tram project will continue to affect routes 1, 2 and 8 until the end of 2027. Tram route 5 will be extended to Jätkäsaari, but passengers going to Töölö will need to change trams.

Different Dates for Some Areas

In Tuusula, Kerava, Siuntio, Kirkkonummi and Sipoo, the winter schedule will start on August 12 or 13 – matching the start of the local school year.

HSL says more route changes are expected at the end of August because of other construction work.
