Police said the man under suspicion is one of two crew members detained shortly after the incident. He is expected to appear in court on Saturday. The second detainee, a Russian national, was placed under a travel ban. In total, three out of the 14 crew members are now subject to travel restrictions within Finland.
Authorities have not disclosed the specific role of the Azerbaijani national on board, citing the need to protect the integrity of the pre-trial investigation. The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation (KRP), which is leading the case, said analysis of evidence collected from the vessel will take several weeks. The shipremains in portwhile investigative operations continue.
Investigators are treating the case as suspected aggravated criminal damage, attempted aggravated criminal damage, and aggravated data interference. Police have said the charges may be updated as the investigation progresses.
