Orpo Rejects Trump’s Tariff Threat as Misguided

Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has criticised US President Donald Trump’s latest tariff threat, saying it is based on incorrect conclusions and raises serious concerns for Finland.
Speaking during the Prime Minister’s interview hour on Sunday, broadcast live by Yle from his official residence in Meilahti, Orpo said Finland maintains good relations with the United States, but stressed that certain actions are not acceptable.
He described the tariff threat, issued on Saturday evening Finnish time, as a serious matter and said it caught him off guard while he was out cross-country skiing.
“The atmosphere on the ski trip undeniably changed,” Orpo said, adding that he received a large number of messages shortly after the news broke.
Orpo did not go into detail about possible countermeasures but underlined the need for calm, fact-based dialogue between allies.
